“I became the best on accident.”
That even sounds funny saying this out loud.
Every person, athlete that I know who excels at what they do got there on purpose.
They made a conscious decision that I am going to do what it takes and focus on that until it happens.
There is no such thing as just going through the motions and expecting success.
It seems like a very small thing, but actually focusing on the process of getting what you want, you will get the most out of it.
If you have worked with me in person, you know I harp on this principle.
You have to be intentional about getting better.
That means when you walk on to the field for practice, or you come in to the gym, you have your mind made up that you will make every rep your best rep, every set your best set, and every drill the best you have done it.
It has your full attention.
But as simple as this is to do, not everyone is cut out for it because it requires extreme concentration for an extended period of time.
Athletes who just go through the motions of practice or training, will NEVER become the best player that they can be.
But this is what separates the great ones from the ok.
As a matter of fact I will go out on a limb and say that it’s not even possible to excel in ANYTHING if you just go through the motion.
Founder of Just Fly Sports and world renowned coach Joel Smith is quoted as saying “My most skilled athletes…approached each lift with an attitude of awareness…”
This means being fully present and being engaged with the task at hand.
You won’t become better by floating through the motions.
You won’t become great on accident.
You become the best by actually focusing WHILE you are going through the process. Giving it your all.
A rep without full concentration means it was a wasted rep.
Get better on purpose.
It is the only way to become better than you were yesterday.
